Product Information:_..

Used together with the pair of Helmholtz coils (item no. 1000906), this fine beam tube can be used to investigate the deflection of electron beams in a homogeneous magnetic field. The tube contains a neon residual gas atmosphere that is ionized along the path of the electrons, producing a bright, sharply defined beam. Measurement markings integrated into the tube allow the diameter of the circular path of the deflected beam to be determined without parallax error. Using the Lorentz force, this also allows the specific charge of the electron, e/m, to be determined quantitatively.
The fine beam tube is mounted on a base with color-coded 4 mm safety sockets. To protect the tube, the base includes a protection circuit that switches off the voltage if it exceeds the cutoff value specified on the tube base. This protection circuit prevents excessively high voltage from damaging the heater and also ensures a soft voltage ramp-up when the unit is switched on.
