World Hypertension Day 2022 – Combating high blood pressure with timely diagnosis, treatment, and prevention for a healthy future

3B Scientific GmbH

Today is World Hypertension Day, dedicated to creating awareness about hypertension, also known as a "silent killer" because most people are unaware of their suffering from this condition. Data shows that people living with hypertension have doubled to 1.28 billion since 1990. This monumental shift is worrisome. Therefore, health authorities and medical experts urge the public to ensure they do not miss their yearly health checks, which help diagnose this disease before it is too late.

Why is hypertension such a serious problem?

Hypertension occurs when the circulating blood exerts too much pressure on the walls of the arteries. Elevated blood pressure can lead to further problems related to the heart, brain, kidney, or other parts. Caused by the regular habits of an individual or due to genetic reasons, more than half of the people who have hypertension go on leading their lives without knowing they have hypertension. Such ignorance can lead to a sudden heart attack, stroke, and other fatal conditions.

How can we prevent hypertension?

A few simple tweaks in our lifestyle and habits as outlined below can ensure we maintain a normal blood pressure:
  • Reducing salt intake and consuming less than the recommended quantity of 5g daily
  • Eating a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables
  • Regular exercise and being physically active
  • Avoiding tobacco consumption & reducing alcohol intake
  • Limit foods high in saturated fats
  • Preventing or reducing trans fats in the diet

In addition, making sure we do not miss our yearly health checkups will take us a long way.

3B Scientific products that help in learning the diagnosis & management of various types of hypertension

With comprehensive and realistic skill trainers, medical professionals learn to diagnose conditions related to hypertension. The combination of medical simulators by 3B Scientific and Cardionics enables students to pick up auscultation skills for identifying an array of heart or lung conditions. For example, pulmonary hypertension happens when the pressure in the blood vessels leading from the heart to the lungs is too high. Students learn to identify these sounds by practicing their auscultation skills on manikins like SAM 3G or SAM II. Standardized patients can also be auscultated presenting a wide range of conditions, even
“regular" hypertension (high blood pressure) can be trained with wearable simulators like the Bionic Hybrid Shirt BHS.
