This experimental apparatus consists of a drop tube with 6 induction coils connected in series and arranged equidistantly.
When a bar magnet falls through the tube, an electrical voltage is induced in each coil, which can be detected as individual voltage peaks. As the falling velocity of the magnet increases, the voltage peaks rise, while the time intervals between the measurement signals become progressively shorter. This allows the acceleration of a falling magnet to be illustrated clearly and precisely.
The measurement and analysis of the voltage curve are carried out using a storage oscilloscope or a voltage sensor with interface and software.
