Experiment:
Real Gases and Critical Point
(115 V, 50/60 Hz), 8000592 [UE2040300-115], Gas laws

Voltage:

115V, 50/60 Hz
230V, 50/60 Hz

Objective: Quantitative analysis of a real gas and determining its critical point

Thematic focus: ..
  Qualitative Observations: ..
  • Liquid and gaseous states
  • Dynamic compression and expansion
  • Formation of the transition point at various temperatures
  Quantitative Measurements: ..
  • Display of the critical point and temperature
  • Recording of isotherms in p-V (Clapeyron) diagrams
  • Recording of isotherms in pV-p (Amegat) diagrams
  • Pressure curves for a saturated vapor
  • Differences between real gases and ideal gases

Experiment description: ..
Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) serves as a real gas and is examined in a measurement cell with only a minimal dead volume. Sulphur hexafluoride is especially suitable for this experiment, as its critical temperature (TC = 319 K) and its critical pressure (pC = 37.6 bar) are both relatively low. It is also non-toxic and is quite safe for use in teaching and in practical classes.

Additionally required: ..
• Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
