Experiment:
Microwave Optics
(115 V, 50/60 Hz), 8000653 [UE3060300-115], Electromagnetic oscillations and waves

Voltage:

115V, 50/60 Hz
230V, 50/60 Hz

Objective: Demonstrate and investigate the phenomena of interference, diffraction and polarisation using microwaves ..

Experiment Procedure: ..
• Take point-by-point measurements of the intensity when microwaves are diffracted by a double slit
• Determine the positions of the maxima for different diffraction orders
• Determine the wavelength when the slit separation is known
• Investigate and modify the polarisation of the emitted microwaves

Experiment Description: ..
Interference, diffraction, and polarization are fundamental topics in wave optics. While these phenomena are typically investigated using visible light, they can also be examined with microwaves. Because microwaves have significantly larger wavelengths than light, the entire experimental setup is macroscopic. This provides a key didactic advantage: diffraction objects and polarization gratings are used whose internal structure is visible to the naked eye.
For example, it can be demonstrated that in diffraction at a double slit, maximum intensity is measured precisely when the receiver is not irradiated by the transmitter along a straight path.
