Learn POCUS for Primary Care with Interactive Real Patient Cases

Practice and simulate the essential foundations of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) with e Sono’s cloud-based, hands-on simulation platform. The e Sono Primary Care Physicians (PCP) POCUS Course offers an engaging, self-paced introduction to ultrasound tailored to the everyday clinical challenges of primary care.

Develop your scanning technique through real patient cases, build diagnostic confidence, and begin integrating POCUS into your routine clinical assessments.

Course Highlights
Gain approximately 4 hours of training through 20 real-life clinical cases and 120 interactive ultrasound scans and exercises, divided across 3 comprehensive modules:
  • Abdominal Ultrasound
  • Cardiac and Lungs
  • Soft Tissues
Clinical cases covered:

Abdominal Ultrasound Module: Approach to Abdominal Pain
6 clinical scenarios focusing on patients with right upper quadrant pain, suspected urinary tract obstruction, or abnormal liver enzymes:
  • Evaluating acute abdominal pain with ultrasound
  • Gallstones, cholecystitis, and biliary dilatation
  • Hydronephrosis, renal stones, and fatty liver
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in a screening context
Cardiac & Lungs Module: Early Recognition of Critical Conditions
9 clinical scenarios supporting primary care decision-making in patients with dyspnea, chest pain, or respiratory symptoms. Includes one introductory eFAST case to expose learners to trauma scanning principles:
  • Lung ultrasound to assess causes of dyspnea
  • Pneumonia at various stages
  • Pleural effusion, atelectasis, and pulmonary edema
  • Heart failure and pericardial effusion
Soft Tissues Module
5 clinical scenarios for identifying common soft tissue pathologies:
  • Cellulitis vs. abscess
  • Baker’s cysts
  • Lymph node swelling
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
This course is designed for
  • Primary Care and Family Physicians
  • Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
  • Medical Students, Interns, and Early Trainees
It serves as an introductory POCUS experience—providing the foundational skills and clinical context needed to begin using ultrasound in everyday care. An advanced course is available separately for those seeking more in-depth training.

Key Features
  • Real Patient Cases: 20 curated cases with 120 interactive ultrasound scans
  • Hardware-Free: Scan using a virtual probe or any smartphone as a probe control
  • Interactive Scanning: Simulated probe control for image acquisition
  • Immediate Feedback: Automatic expert feedback after each exercise
  • Smart Anatomy: Layered anatomical models with cross-sectional views
  • Ultrasound Features: Realistic controls including measurements, depth/gain adjustment, and annotations
  • Accessible Anywhere: Fully online; no extra equipment required
What You Will Learn
By the end of the Primary Care POCUS Course, participants will be able to:
  • Recognize key ultrasound findings in common primary care conditions, including right upper quadrant pain, shortness of breath (dyspnea), chest pain, and soft tissue swelling.
  • Distinguish between normal and abnormal ultrasound images using real-time interpretation supported by clinical case context.
  • Interpret ultrasound results for conditions such as gallstones, hydronephrosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), pneumonia, pleural effusion, heart failure, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
  • Incorporate POCUS into daily clinical practice to improve diagnostic accuracy, support faster decision-making, and streamline patient care in outpatient and primary care settings.
