TENS and NMES require electrodes to transfer the electrical impulse from the TENS device to the patient. Most TENS units come with self-adhesive electrodes that connect to the unit through lead wires. These electrode pads are placed on the skin around the affected areas of pain and the current is transferred from the TENS machine to the patient.
